An update about the removed series

I’m sorry for removing several series without explaining the change first. Losing access to videos included in your membership is disappointing, especially if you were enjoying one of these stories.

A closer copyright review raised unresolved questions about sharing the original material, so these series were taken offline. The permissions should have been checked more carefully from the start.

The plan now is to bring you other engaging stories using material with clear permissions. New videos will gradually join the member library to help make up for the reduced selection.

A new way to listen to our Nüwa story

Hi everyone 🙂 Our Nüwa story now has an audio version on the website.

I wanted to make it easier to come back to a story and listen again — even on days when you don’t feel like watching a video. You can stay with one line or one picture, or simply listen without looking.

A new mix of member videos — still 3 every week

Hi everyone 🙂 I’m trying a slightly different mix of member videos for the next six weeks. I want to give you more Super Beginner and Beginner stories to explore, while continuing Intermediate videos regularly.

Tuesday: Super Beginner
Thursday: Beginner
Sunday: Intermediate every other week. On the other Sundays, an extra Beginner or Super Beginner video, alternating between the two.

All new member videos arrive at 19:00 China time. You’ll still have 3 new videos every week.

If you enjoy Intermediate, it’s staying! You can also keep exploring the existing videos at your own pace. I’ll review this mix after six weeks, and I’d love to hear how it feels for you.

Transcript update

Hi everyone!

I made a small improvement to the transcripts on the website.
You can now click on most Chinese words in the transcript to see the pinyin and English meaning without leaving the page.

It’s still Version 1, so there are probably things to improve. If you notice anything strange, just let me know. 😊

Next, I’m going to spend some time making an audio-first version of the Super Beginner stories. I know some of you enjoy learning that way too, so I’d like to give it a try.

✅Watched filter, input progress, and continue learning

1. You can now filter videos by watched / unwatched in the Video page

2. Learning progress has been added
(for now, videos still need to be marked watched manually)

You can now see:
— total input hours
— learning days this month
in “My Progress“
I’ll keep trying to improve this into a more automatic system over time 🙂

3. “Continue learning” recommendations have also been added below videos

Still improving things little by little 🌱

After thinking more about what I hope Blabla Chinese can become in the long term —
a place easier to stay around, with easier access, where you can keep getting Chinese input little by little and grow together over a long time 🌱

So I decided to lower the website membership price from $15/month to $8/month.

This will apply automatically to current members too — no need to do anything.

I’m also continuing to work on:
🍀 transcripts
🍀 watched / unwatched system
🍀 progress tracking
🍀 and making the whole learning experience smoother step by step

  • I just realized something today… many of you watch everything on your phone —
    but I had never really gone through the full experience myself

    So I tried adding the website to my home screen,
    and it actually feels much nicer — almost like an app now 🙂

    If you’re watching on your phone, you can try it too. Learn how➡️

  • Also started working on improving the video pages

    I want them to feel more like a space where you can stay longer —
    with transcripts, easier navigation, and more videos to keep going

    Still testing things, but I’m excited about this 🙂

  • A student told me yesterday after watching my latest YouTube video:
    “Wow… Amber has legs!” 😄

    Okay… now I really feel like I should do more outdoor videos haha 🙂

  • Just got back from traveling — and I made it! ✌️
    I managed to film 5 videos

    One is already up on YouTube (the “Princess” one)
    2 will be coming this week, and another 2 the week after

    Hope you’ll enjoy them — I had a lot of fun filming these 🙂

  • I was surprised to receive new teacher – Mia’s first video so soon — and it was even better than I expected! 🎉
    You’ll be seeing her here on April 5th ✌️

  • I also finished recording and editing the podcast with my friends
    It will be up on Mar 29 🙂
  • Recently I’ve been learning Openclaw Basecamp online
    I’ll join the second live session tonight — hope I can follow this time haha
    (I felt a bit dumb in the first one… hhh)
    Curious to see if AI tools can help me work more efficiently

  • Also… sorry for delaying the Super Beginner video again this week 🙈
    I’ll try to make it up soon

Next (what I’m thinking):

  • I’ll be traveling to Nanjing and Xinjiang from Mar 27 to Apr 4
    and will try filming more outdoor videos —
    I’d love to show you more of the real world outside 🙂
